Arafat Asks Boycott of U.S. Products to Protest Mideast Role
Palestine Liberation Organization chief Yasser Arafat today called for an Arab boycott of American products to protest U.S. policy in the Mideast, saying “those who use Cadillacs can use Mercedeses and Peugeots instead.”
“If Arab governments are not able to do anything, Arab peoples can,” the 55-year-old PLO leader told a news conference in Kuwait.
The call for a boycott underlined a new anti-American spirit Arafat has been showing since the Oct. 1 Israeli air raid on his Tunisian headquarters that killed 73 people. Arafat has charged that Israel informed the United States of its intentions before carrying out the attack.
