A former senior note clerk for the Los Angeles branch of Tokai Bank of California was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison and fined $50,000 for embezzling nearly $2 million from the bank over an eight-month period.

The U.S. attorney’s office said the penalty imposed on Lorenzo Abraham Pacia Jr., 41, by U.S. District Judge Terry J. Hatter in Los Angeles federal court was “one of the longest sentences” for bank embezzlement in recent years.

Pacia, a former Carson resident, pleaded guilty to seven counts.

After embezzling the money, Pacia used a false passport to flee to Hong Kong, where he was arrested and extradited to the United States.
