Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou today delivered a strong protest to the American ambassador over violations of Greek airspace by planes based on the aircraft carrier Saratoga, the government spokesman said.

Kostas Laliotis told reporters that Papandreou, in his first formal meeting with newly appointed Ambassador Robert Keeley, demanded an explanation of a violation of Greek airspace Monday by three U.S. fighter planes. Laliotis said the Greek air force had intercepted the planes.
