Australian Sentenced to Death for Drug Offense

BANGKOK, Thailand — A Thai court sentenced an Australian to death Monday for possessing 4.4 pounds of heroin intended for sale, court officials reported.
They said that Donald Tait, 52, a pilot from Sydney, was arrested in July last year at a hotel in Phuket, 580 miles south of Bangkok. He denied the charge and has 15 days to appeal the sentence, officials said.
