The NBC and CBS television networks have agreed to cooperate with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the airing of a public-service announcement aimed at reducing teen-age pregnancies, it was announced Wednesday.

Dr. Luella Klein, a spokesman for the college, said the spot announcement, first offered to the networks but rejected July 31, had been modified to eliminate the word contraceptives, which network officials found objectionable.

In the new announcement accepted by the two networks, the reference to contraceptives has been replaced by the phrase, “There are many ways to prevent unintended pregnancies.”

Klein said the modification in the spot announcement was made by NBC-TV in its Chicago studios at no charge to the college.

“This is a fantastic development,” Klein said of the agreement with the two networks. “I hope they run it often and at a time when young people can see it--I mean prime time, not in the middle of the night.”

She said negotiations on the announcement were continuing with ABC-TV.
