EEC unemployment rose to 11.2% in September.

The figure for the European Economic Community compared to 10.9% in the month before, the EEC statistics office reported. The number of people in the civilian work force registered as unemployed climbed to 12.6 million from 12.4 million in August, the report said. In September a year ago, 12.4 million people, or 10.9% of the work force, were unemployed. The EEC jobless rate peaked at a record 11.9% last January. Among the member countries, rates of unemployment for September fell in West Germany, Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands and rose in France, Italy and Britain. The rates in Luxembourg and Denmark were unchanged.
