Walnut : State ‘Reluctant’ on Project

Share

The state Department of Health Services has answered a city inquiry about a planned housing development in Walnut but next to the BKK Landfill in West Covina, saying that it “would be reluctant to recommend” that Walnut proceed with the project.

Acting City Manager Linda Holmes said that the City Council instructed former City Manager Robert Dickey in August to seek an opinion from the state agency to determine whether it would be safe to build 14 single-family homes on undeveloped lots in the northeast corner of the city. Holmes said the property is owned by Umark Development Co. and is zoned for residential use.

Umark and the city are expected to begin discussing potential zoning changes that would allow the property to be developed for a non-residential use, Holmes said.
