Arcadia : Guardian Angels Form Chapter
The Guardian Angels, a volunteer group that conducts unarmed foot and car patrols in high-crime areas, has officially organized a San Gabriel Valley chapter with 25 members.
The group’s Los Angeles chapter began patrolling the West Valley in July in response to several murders attributed to the Night Stalker. Members also conducted training sessions for residents who expressed interest in forming a chapter. Since the arrest of Richard Ramirez in connection with the Night Stalker slayings, the group has been patrolling high-crime areas in the West San Gabriel Valley and assisting the Los Angeles chapter in its Hollywood-area patrols.
Jim Sherwood of Arcadia is leader of the new chapter. A recruitment meeting has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday at the YMCA, 621 S. Mountain Ave., Monrovia.
