IRELAND, CONT.

I would like to take issue with David McCalden’s assertion that “Irish-Catholic-Gaelics” have taken credit for Ulster Protestant achievements. He mentions James Galway, Van Morrison and George Best as just such Ulster Protestants who have not voiced their displeasure at this “trend” because they do not want to “make political waves.”

On the contrary, it appears that those gentlemen are proud of their Irish roots, since Galway and Morrison’s music draws heavily on traditional Irish music. Best has on numerous occasions called for a united Irish soccer team. Is it possible that these men don’t protest being classed as Irish because they seem themselves as natives of that island without embroiling themselves in the political territorialism of the likes of McCalden?

Incidentally, the map that Calendar printed clearly illustrates the artificially created British-imposed border in contrast with the sea borders that nature created.
