Anti-Tank Round Kills 2 at Camp Pendleton
A fatal explosion in a Marine Corps armory at Camp Pendleton was caused by a weapon not usually stored at the San Diego County base, military officials said Saturday. There was no explanation as to why the anti-tank round was in the armory. Three other rounds also found in the armory were determined to be unstable by Marine explosive ordnance experts and destroyed, a military statement said. Two servicemen working inside the armory were killed and three others injured Thursday when the round exploded as a group of Marines turned in their weapons at the armory after maneuvers. The injured Marines are all in stable condition at the base hospital.
