In closing arguments, the defense attorney at the Cameron Hooker sex slave trial challenged the credibility of the prosecution’s two key witnesses. Rolland Papendick attempted to point out before the San Mateo County Superior Court jury various “inconsistencies” between the testimony of Colleen Stan, 28, of Riverside, who was allegedly held in bondage for more than seven years, and Janice Hooker, the defendant’s wife, who was granted immunity from prosecution. Tehama County Deputy Dist. Atty. Christine McGuire asserted in closing arguments that Hooker was “obsessed with sexual slavery. He did everything he could think of doing with Colleen. . . . How can a person who keeps another person believe there is consent? A master cannot have a good-faith belief that his slave consents.” Hooker, 31, of Red Bluff is charged with 16 felony counts. The case is expected to go to the jury today.
