A Nicaraguan-born American citizen returned to his home in San Francisco after three weeks of detention in his native land. Bank teller Armando Castillo, 24, said he had gone to Nicaragua on vacation and was harassed by authorities there, who told him he was required to register for Nicaraguan military service and needed a Nicaraguan passport, despite the fact that he became a naturalized U.S. citizen seven years ago. Castillo finally was permitted to leave the country with the aid of the U.S. Embassy in Managua but said he still does not understand why he was detained.
