3 Who Left Drowning Children Get 15 Years
Three smugglers who left drowning children struggling and screaming in the sea after they were tossed from a speedboat carrying them to Hong Kong from China have been imprisoned for 15 years.
The smugglers were running 24 children into the colony last year to join their parents when the speedboat carrying them collided with a patrol launch that was giving chase. Seven children were thrown into the sea, and four drowned.
The children, some as young as 6, had been left in China by their parents, who slipped into Hong Kong earlier. The smugglers charged a fee of up to $2,000 for each child.
