Don Sutton, who joined the Angels late in the season, became the third member of the team to file for free agency, joining first baseman Rod Carew and relief pitcher Donnie Moore.

The Angels termed Sutton’s filing as “a formality, to keep his rights protected.” General Manager Mike Port has said the team is intent on re-signing Sutton for 1986.

Sutton, 40, lives in Laguna Hills and has expressed a desire to play for a Southern California team. He is five victories short of 300.
