The Region : Tex Watson Denied a Parole Hearing

Charles (Tex) Watson, convicted in the 1969 murders of actress Sharon Tate and six others, has been denied automatic annual parole hearings by the 2nd District Court of Appeal. The state Board of Prison Terms, in denying Watson parole in 1983, said he could not be considered again for three years. He then won a San Luis Obispo County Superior Court ruling providing annual parole reviews under a law that took effect Jan. 1, 1983. The state appellate justices, however, ruled that less frequent hearings for Watson are legally appropriate, noting only that the parole board must in the future state its reasons for delaying a review.
