Hanoi Hit on ‘Cultural Genocide’

UNITED NATIONS —
The United States charged today that Vietnam is practicing “cultural genocide” in Cambodia and called on Hanoi to withdraw its invasion troops and negotiate a political settlement.
U.S. Ambassador Vernon A. Walters told the U.N. General Assembly that Vietnam, “not satisfied with controlling the government in Cambodia. . . , now seeks to remake the country in its own image.”
