Ugandan rebels said today they had custody of the 49 passengers and crew members aboard a hijacked Ugandan Airlines plane and would free within two days all but 10 military personnel held as “prisoners of war.”

The National Resistance Army said it also would keep the plane, which was forced to land at a rebel-controlled airstrip in the western town of Kasese after the hijacking Sunday.
