Jarma Lewis Bensinger, a former film actress who became active in cultural affairs at UCLA after her marriage, was found dead Tuesday of unknown but natural causes in her Beverly Hills home. She was 54.
As Jarma Lewis, she had roles in such films as “The Tender Trap,” “The Bar Sinister,” “The Cobweb” and “Raintree County.”
She met Benjamin E. Bensinger III of Chicago, heir to the Brunswick bowling fortune, in 1954. They married the next year and moved to Los Angeles, where she served on the executive board of the UCLA Art Council for 15 years. The council is the primary support group for UCLA’s Wight Art Gallery.
Mrs. Bensinger and her husband later divorced. Survivors include her sons, John, Kerry and Tyler, and a granddaughter. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking contributions in her name to the UCLA Arts Council.
