M/A-Com, a Burlington, Mass.-based high-tech company, blamed the 80 layoffs at its San Diego operations on the computer industry’s slump. Linkabit, which was founded in Los Angeles in 1968 and later moved to San Diego, was purchased by M/A-Com in 1980. Before the layoffs, the company had more than 1,350 employees in San Diego County. The layoffs, which were spread across the company’s three divisions, affected technical and staff members but not manufacturing operations.
