Ann Weir, daughter of an American clergyman who was held hostage in Lebanon, was killed with a friend in the crash of a train and an express bus, authorities said Monday.

Weir, 24, and Kathryn Lorimer, 26, were returning on the bus from Cairo to their teaching jobs at the Schutz American School in Alexandria when the crash occurred Sunday night, friends said. The pair had spent the weekend in Cairo with their parents.

The Rev. Benjamin Weir, 61, and his wife were in Cairo for the 75th anniversary of Ramses College, a school for girls. They were visiting the Rev. and Mrs. John G. Lorimer.

Police sources said an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the accident, in which five Egyptians were also injured.

Rev. Weir was released Sept. 14 after more than 17 months as a captive of the Shia Muslim extremist group Islamic Jihad (Islamic Holy War).
