BOGOTA, Colombia — Two southern volcanoes have begun rumbling just nine days after the Nevado del Ruiz volcano erupted, triggering a mud slide that killed at least 25,000 people, the provincial governor said today.
Mercedes Apraez, governor of Narino province, said the 15,721-foot-high Azufral volcano, 370 miles southeast of the Nevado del Ruiz near the border with Ecuador, was “making very strange noises.” There were also reports of steam and noise from the 14,111-foot-high Galeras volcano, 12 miles west of Pasto.
