Power Tests Begun at Plant Hit by Blast

LAUGHLIN, Nev. —
Workers have begun starting up the Southern California Edison power plant here for the first time since a steam pipe explosion killed six workers and injured 10 others in June, officials said Thursday.
A plant spokesman said the plant was not expected to begin producing electricity for several days. Employees were testing the plant’s water, coal-fire and other systems, and it could be operating at full capacity in 10 days.
