Geneva Summit Post-Mortems
Was the summit a success? Who came out on top? Typical American questions. The summit is just another game, or a World Series. There has to be a winner and a loser. There is no tolerance of gradualism, nor of the fact that both sides may gain. The U.S. media promoted this idea, and spread confusion.
The summit was successful. It relieved the fears of the world that Armaggedon was imminent. There is now some breathing room. The President did not give away our primary defense against the Russians, the Strategic Defense Initiative, for the illusory promises of a country that will have no compunction in ignoring such promises when it suits its goal of world conquest.
In the naval and military academies, they taught us to always assume that an enemy is capable and ready to perform any act that will destroy his adversary. You then make every effort to counter such attacks. The most dangerous thing you can do is to assume that there are certain attacks or infiltrations that he will not do.
Never assume good will. Our lives and civilization are at stake. Let’s all of us support our capable President.
