Differing With Futurist

The article “AIDS: How Will It Alter Our Life Style?” seemed to come from a perspective somewhere right of puritanical.

First of all, sex is a good, pleasurable, God-given activity. In light of the times, certain changes and precautions need to be taken. However, it is still there to be enjoyed and appreciated.

Secondly, what exactly is “polite society” and who are they to determine and judge what is and is not acceptable. Pornography has both its positives and negatives. But the reduction of it--as a consequence of the AIDS crisis--would not necessarily help to “repress sexual anxieties.”

And why, all of a sudden, would women choose not to have careers because of AIDS? First of all, I don’t believe women are postponing marriage to have careers. Many seem able to manage both. How would a woman’s not working result from the AIDS crisis? Would a woman need to spend all her time looking for and checking up on her potential suitors?

If this is an article written about the prospects of what the future may hold as a result of the AIDS crisis, it reminds me of George Orwell gone bad.
