GM bought a stake in a U.S. unit of Fiat.

Fiat SpA of Italy has sold General Motors a 20% stake in Comau Productivity Systems, Fiat’s Troy, Mich.-based machine tool company. Comau, which had been a wholly owned Fiat subsidiary, announced the sale. The transaction was through Fiat USA, a holding company of Fiat SpA. The price wasn’t disclosed. Comau President Guy Lombardo said that Comau had $175 million in new orders last year. Comau is a specialty company making equipment for metal cutting, welding, material handling and robotic assembly.
