The San Diego State women’s basketball team, which lost its first two games, opens its home season tonight at 8 p.m. in Peterson Gym when it faces Jackson State in the second game of the opening night of the Dial tournament. New Orleans will take on San Jose State in the first game.

The Aztecs lost to Minnesota, 72-59, and Southern Illinois-Carbondale, 76-55, to open their season on the road last weekend. SDSU is led by 6-foot 3-inch, senior center Pat Rice, who is averaging 14 points and 8 rebounds per game. The Aztecs, however, were set back by news earlier this week that guard Dee Dee Duncan, who averaged more than 12 points per game last season, is academically ineligible and will not be able to play until at least next semester. Shelda Arceneaux, the Aztecs’ top returning scorer from last year, has hit just 4 of 23 shots from the field this season. She is, however, averaging 14.5 rebounds per game. Jackson State lost its season opener last week to Alabama.

New Orleans (3-0) is coming off a win over Alabama Birmingham and is led by forward Carmen Reed, averaging 18.7 points per game. San Jose State is 0-3, having lost to Arizona, Hawaii, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
