Relocation Job Awarded for Library Project
The firm of CH2M Hill Inc. has received a $110,000 contract from the Community Redevelopment Agency to coordinate the relocation of a Department of Water and Power distribution station in preparation for development of the Library Square project in downtown Los Angeles.
The distribution station will be moved from the 400 block of S. Hope Street to a site adjacent to Library Square, which will be bordered on three sides by 5th and Hope streets and Grand Avenue. The existing two-story building will be removed and an underground facility built.
The Library Square project calls for rehabilitation and expansion of the landmark Central Library and construction of a 73-story office building to be called Library Tower. The relocation project is expected to take 30 to 36 months to complete.
The redevelopment agency also has entered into a 120-day exclusive negotiating agreement with Los Angeles Garage Associates for development of a major parking facility on the half-block bounded by Main, 5th and 6th streets and Harlem Place.
The agency envisions a parking facility with about 1,100 parking spaces and about 3,900 square feet of ground-floor commercial/retail space. The development group is a joint venture of Motor Parks Inc., L R Parking and Allied Parking.
