Mayor Killed, 3 Wounded in Philippine Ambush

MANILA —
A town mayor was killed and three other people were wounded Sunday when they were ambushed while driving to attend the mass surrender of 32 Communist guerrillas, the official Philippine News Agency reported Monday.
Killed in the ambush in Baay-Licuan, 200 miles north of Manila, was Mayor Daguio Valera, who had actively supported the government’s drive against rebels of the New People’s Army, the news agency said.
