NEW YORK —
The last three of seven spikes in the Statue of Liberty’s crown were bolted into place Tuesday, completing the exterior restoration of the 225-ton monument.
The triangular spikes of copper, weighing about 150 pounds and measuring up to 9 feet, were restored and strengthened in a workshop on the island. Other repairs on the interior of the monument are still under way. Completion of the work is scheduled for July 4, 1986.
