Travel Tax

Share

This is in response to Leo Villarreal (Letters, Nov. 21), who wondered why the United States doesn’t hav a tax on departure from the United States similar to those he experienced in other countries.

Villarreal and all other persons departing the United States pay a $3 departure tax whenever leaving this country.

The difference is that it is automatically added to the airline ticket and is not a separate item that a passenger pays in the airport. For this reason, Villarreal may not be aware that this country does indeed have such a tax.
