NEWPORT MUSEUM GETS GRANTS

The Newport Harbor Art Museum has won a $40,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant--the largest the museum has received from the federal agency for exhibition underwriting.

The museum also announced an $18,000 grant from another federal agency, the Institute of Museum Services, to be used for conserving the museum’s permanent collection.

The $40,000 NEA grant will be used to underwrite the museum’s “Surrealism Into Abstraction” show opening July 11. (The show, organized by Newport Harbor, is to be moved later to the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.)

The NEA has already awarded the Newport Harbor four smaller grants this year totaling $40,000, primarily for operational and conservation purposes.
