Santa Ana : Would-Be Painters Can Brush Up at Bowers

Share

Orange County residents can help muralist Emigdio Vasquez paint a 100-foot mural at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana. Beginning with the Conquistadors and the Rancho period, the mural traces the county’s history through the present day.

Tracy Ledin, public relations coordinator for the museum, said painting has already begun on the mural and will continue every Monday through Thursday between noon and 4 p.m. through June.

“Nobody has to worry about whether they’re good enough of a painter,” Ledin said. “Emigdio is out there supervising every day. It’s a fun way to become part of history.”

Funded through a grant from the California Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, materials and instruction at the mural workshops are free to participants.

Vasquez, a longtime muralist for the City of Anaheim, also conducts free oil painting workshops from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday. Reservations can be made by calling the museum at (714) 972-1900.
