Peking has agreed in principle to buy French atomic reactors and British turbines worth more than $1.5 billion for its first full-scale nuclear power plant, officials said Sunday.

Officials said the agreement on purchases for the 1,800-megawatt station in the southern part of the country represents China’s biggest single commercial deal ever.

In a Sino-French accord concluded in Paris on Friday, China agreed in principle to buy two 900-megawatt pressurized-water reactors from the French firm Framatome worth at least $1.3 billion, French officials said.
