Toys killed 31 children and sent more than 588,700 others to hospital emergency rooms last year, federal health and safety officials reported. In a pre-Christmas warning that parents should be careful to select a toy suitable for the child’s age, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said some of the deaths “were related more closely to the child’s inability to deal with the toy than to problems with the toy.”
