Ice chunks swelling the Snake River on the Oregon-Idaho border pushed floodwaters over the banks and threatened the water supply of Ontario, Ore., as about 20 National Guardsmen moved in to evacuate residents. “We’ve got several evacuations going on along the river, although the numbers are not in yet,” said Oregon State Police Trooper Frank Durgan in Ontario. “We’ve got some water backing up through some of the drains. No roads or bridges have been affected, although in several places they’re putting sandbags out.”
