Poland is ready to improve its battered relations with the United States in 1986 if Washington takes a “realistic approach” to Poland’s internal affairs, Foreign Minister Marian Orzechowski said. “Poland has many times declared its interest in the improvement (of relations) to be followed by a full normalization of Polish-American ties,” Orzechowski told the Communist Party newspaper Trybuna Ludu. Orzechowski said a return to normal relations was possible “if the United States departs from its unfriendly policy. . . .” Poland claims the United States interferes in internal Polish affairs by broadcasting “unfriendly” news into Poland through Radio Free Europe and the Voice of America.
