Peru Official Resigns

LIMA, Peru —
Peruvian Agriculture Minister Mario Barturen resigned Monday in the wake of protests over widespread shortages of beef, chicken, potatoes and rice. The Agriculture Ministry has blamed the shortages on speculation by wholesalers pressing for higher prices despite a government-ordered price freeze, in force since August.
