World Vision Given $400,000 to Aid Drought Relief in Chad
The USA for Africa Foundation has awarded $400,000 to World Vision, an international Christian aid organization, for drought relief efforts in the north-central African country of Chad, officials said.
“This significant grant will help Chadian farmers get back on their feet and start producing food again,” World Vision President Ted W. Engstrom said in a statement released from the organization’s Monrovia offices.
“The USA for Africa grant will be a part of our organization’s $58 million relief and development aid package for Africa in 1986.”
The USA for Africa Foundation is a non-profit organization that raised more than $50 million for African famine relief through the work of American artists who donated their talents for various musical and video projects.
Among the organization’s projects was the recording and distribution of the hit single “We Are The World.”
The $400,000 award, which is actually two grants, will be used to buy seed for 10,000 Chadian farmers and their families and to lease a fleet of 10 transport trucks to deliver emergency food supplies from ports of entry to distribution sites, World Vision officials said.
World Vision has aid projects in more than 75 countries.
