Last Christmas, many English rock stars gave us a delightful ballad, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” and it was directed to their prime minister. This year it should have been directed to the presidents of the big three networks for bringing us Christmas Eve reruns of violent shows or idiotic sitcoms. CBS showed a family movie (“The Black Stallion”), but not until 9 p.m. when the kids were in bed! And Christmas Day fared even worse, as we were treated with more reruns or with such Christmas shows as “Hell Town” with pool sharks, “Dynasty” with Rita’s improprieties and even Mary Tyler Moore in a poker game, just to cite a few examples. I thank the heavens for PBS.
