Transamerica Insurance Co. will donate $100,000 to the American Foundation for AIDS Research. The gift, the largest corporate contribution to the foundation set up to raise money in the fight against the deadly acquired immune deficiency syndrome, is to be presented today in San Francisco by David Carpenter, chairman of Transamerica’s life insurance subsidiary, to actress Elizabeth Taylor, honorary chair of the foundation. The gift will be coupled with a plea for more private-sector participation in the fund-raising efforts. Last year, Transamerica paid $2.7 million in claims for AIDS-related deaths.
