About 25,000 Dalkon Shield claims have been filed.

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Richmond, Va., has received the claims from potential Dalkon Shield claimants in the United States, Europe and Australia, court clerk Michael M. Sheppard said. An average of 3,000 letters and cards a day have arrived since A. H. Robins Co. began a campaign advising women of the deadline for filing against the company, Sheppard added. He estimated that nearly 25,000 pieces of mail have been received but “we stopped counting at 8,000.”
