Two businessmen presented the trustee of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat with a $500,000 check, consummating the purchase of the 134-year-old newspaper, which had been in bankruptcy proceedings. John B. Prentis III and William E. Franke formed Veritas Corp. to acquire the newspaper, which suspended publication Dec. 6. They said the paper would resume publication Monday, Jan. 27.
