Mainstream ‘Immersion’

Share

Re The National Spelling Bee champion, Balu Natarajan (“One Last, Year-End Look at the Passing Parade of People in the News,” Dec. 26): Thanks to writer Betty Cuniberti for this follow-up. I only wish she would have added that at home the family speaks their native Indian language. It would help silence that cabal of letter writers who constantly harp on immigrants, (saying) that the only way to get into the mainstream is “total immersion” in the American culture.
