ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Police in Fujaira, one of the seven United Arab Emirates, have arrested an American merchant seaman trying to sell heroin from his hotel room, the Emirates daily newspaper Al Ittihad said Monday.
According to the paper, the man, who was not identified, was a crewman aboard the President Taylor, an American freighter stopped and searched by the Iranian navy in the Persian Gulf earlier this month.
The paper said that 17.6 pounds of heroin worth $1.2 million was confiscated after the man tried to sell some to an undercover police agent.
The U.S. Embassy said it has no information about the incident.
