The escalation of state-sponsored terrorism will force the United States to take military action “within a year . . . to show it means exactly what it says,” a former deputy director of the CIA predicted. Ray S. Cline, now at Georgetown University’s Center for Strategic and International Studies, spoke at a news conference to introduce his book, “Terrorism as State-Sponsored Covert Warfare,” co-authored with Yonah Alexander. Citing countries such as Libya, Iran, Syria, Cuba and North Korea as Sponsors of terrorism, Alexander said the world faces “a century of terrorism.” Sometimes, he added, there “is no alternative to active military response.”
