Placentia : Council Accepts Offer of $122,000 for Old Hall

The city’s old City Hall was on the market for less than six months when an offer came in this week to buy the Spanish-style structure.

The same day, City Council members accepted the $122,000 offer from Argus Corp., a construction management development corporation, which plans to move its offices from the city of Industry to Placentia, City Finance Director Frank Dunnavant said.

The company, which gave the city a $5,000 “good faith check” Tuesday, is paying the appraised value of the building, which was erected during World War II, Dunnavant said.

The building at 120 S. Bradford Ave. was Placentia’s City Hall until 1974, when city administration moved into new quarters. It’s empty now. The single-story, 3,000-square-foot structure was later converted to offices for social programs, Dunnavant said. For the past two years, however, the building has been used for storage.

Not affected by the sale is the former police facility annexed to the old City Hall. The old police station is being converted to living quarters for firefighters, Dunnavant said.
