Swiss Sled Takes Bobsled Gold Medal

Hans Hiltebrand piloted his Swiss sled to the gold medal Sunday at the European Four-Man Bobsled Championships in a total time of 3 minutes 35.20 seconds over four runs.

East Germany 1, with Bernhard Lehmann driving, was second and Austria 1, which led after the first day of competition, ended up in third place with Peter Kienast piloting.

Switzerland 2, with Hiltebrand, Kurt Meier, Erwin Fassbinder and Andrej Kiser aboard, was second after Saturday’s two runs, just 4/110ths of a second behind the leader.

They put together times of 53.52 and 53.60 seconds at the Olympic bob run Sunday.
