Boeing Profit, Revenue Increase in Year, Quarter

An increase in airline travel sent Boeing Co. revenue and profit soaring in the fourth quarter of 1985 as well as for the year, the aerospace giant reported.

A statement issued by Boeing said net earnings amounted to $188 million on revenue exceeding $4.2 billion for the three months ending Dec. 31, compared to $124 million on more than $3.3 billion in revenue for the same period a year earlier.

For the year, Boeing reported more than $13.6 billion in revenue, up from less than $10.4 billion in 1984, and earnings of $566 million, compared to $390 million in 1984.

The company received new orders for 390 jetliners worth about $14.9 billion last year, compared to 169 planes for $5.8 billion in 1984.

Unfilled orders for jetliners as of Dec. 31 amounted to $24.7 billion, up from $21.5 billion at the same time a year earlier.
