Kaufman & Broad agreed to purchase two firms.

The Los Angeles-based company said it entered into a preliminary agreement to pay a total of $75 million for Anchor National Life Insurance and Anchor National Financial Services, both of which are subsidiaries of Washington National Corp. of Evanston, Ill. Anchor National Life is a California-chartered company with $5 billion of life insurance in force and $1.6 billion in assets. Anchor National Financial Services is a securities broker-dealer.
