U.S. Carrier Reportedly Sails for Philippines

MANILA — The U.S. aircraft carrier Enterprise was reported heading for the Philippines on Thursday, but a U.S. Embassy spokesman dismissed suggestions that the move is linked with next week’s presidential election.
The spokesman and U.S. Navy officials Wednesday would not confirm local press reports that the Enterprise was headed for the Subic Bay Navy Base 50 miles northwest of Manila, where another carrier, the Midway, docked about 10 days ago.
